The time of Jesus on earth was marked by a number of violent revolutionary messiahs who led their followers into death. Jesus was expected to also lead a violent overthrow of the Roman occupation. What records are extant of the early Church basically up to the time of emperor Constantine in the early 4th Century shows complete non-participation in the military, capital punishment, abortion. They fed desperately poor pagans. They brought in babies left exposed to die. The so-called "Just War Theory" originated before Christ by the Roman philosopher Seneca and then promulgated by Augustine and others to follow. The actions in a just war have never lived up to its ideals. Yes, to follow Jesus is impractical, scandalous, and foolhardy. Nevertheless, I'll try to stick by Him.

Any parent can understand this: you love your child deeply, even when their behavior is infuriating.
