I am a practicing physician. In Dr. Michael Brown's book "Has God Failed You?", he dedicates a chapter to "Permission to Doubt." In it he commends a childlike faith, but also another kind of faith. "It is a faith that struggles. A faith that wants to be sure but is not, a faith that battles with doubts, and a faith that is commendable in His sight."
