This survey or any survey should be 0% approval, acceptance, of ssm, ssa, The Bible is the authority for all Christians, followers of Christ. My heart breaks for anyone who faces such a struggle! be kind in your words, show compassion and mercy , but you cannot tell them the Bible says something it does not say! Point them to Jesus and tell them He has the answers they seek! Tell them to ask Jesus the hard questions Why? I believe he will answer ! Jesus , The way The truth and the Life!

Any "pastor" who believes that same-sex "marriage" is OK has been turned over to a reprobate mind. Brown wrote: "That’s why, when I had a mini-debate with 'gay Christian' poster boy Matthew Vines, he could not offer a single Scripture verse in support of his position." Well, frankly, I think "debating" anyone like that is a mistake. As Mark Twain so humorously put it: "Never argue with stupid people. They will bring you down to their level, and then beat you with experience." :) LOL. His advice actually seems to echo Proverbs 23:9: "Do not speak to a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words."

I don't care for the term "mainline" Christian. I prefer the term "normal" Christian.

We need to be careful when presented with statistical data.
Benjamin Disraeli is quoted as saying “There are three types of lies – lies, damn lies, and statistics.” and also, "The greatest good you can do for another is not just to share your riches but to reveal to him his own."
The definition of whether a pastor was Evangelical & Mainline was self-identified, so that could lead to a biased statistic based on each individual's views. Like asking different religious groups whether they consider the Bible to be infallible &/or inerrant based on their individual definitions of these words instead of one stated definition.
The quotes appear are framed in the negative sense, rather than affirming the truth. A bit like asking someone if they think a loving God would condone people being cast into the Lake of Fire.
Instead of this quote...
“I see nothing wrong with legal civil unions between two people of the same gender.”
Mainline pastors are more likely to “Agree” than Evangelical pastors (54% v. 18%)
How would the results be affected if this was the quote?
“I believe in the biblical definition of marriage, that it is more than human romance, wonderful as that is. It is more than close friendship, wonderful as that is. Marriage is the display of Christ and His Bride in love together. One mortal life fully shared between one man and one woman."
same gender getting married.”
LifeWay Research reportedly used the following methodology...
● The phone survey of 1,000 Protestant pastors was conducted
August 30 – September 24, 2019. Comparisons are made with a
survey with the same methodology conducted August 29 –
September 11, 2018.
● The calling list was a stratified random sample, drawn from a list of
all Protestant churches. Quotas were used for church size.
● Each interview was conducted with the senior pastor, minister or
priest of the church called
● Responses were weighted by region to more accurately reflect the
population
● The completed sample is 1,000 surveys
● The sample provides 95% confidence that the sampling error does
not exceed +3.3%
● Margins of error are higher in sub-groups

It does come down to how we handle the scriptures. I’m a member of the seventh day Adventist church which is opposed to homosexual behavior as well as non charismatic
